We’re delighted to welcome David from World of Whisky in Sydney’s Double Bay to the Dads Stuff team. Over the next few weeks David will introduce us to some of the best whisky’s going around, then if you like the sounds of them, you can buy them from the World of Whisky website. His first offering is Tomatin 14yo Portwood Finish. Take it away David…
Tomatin 14yo Portwood Finish
The Tomatin distillery is located in the Scottish Highlands, just 20 minutes south of Inverness. In the 1970s was the biggest producer of whisky spirit in Scotland, with 23 stills in operation. Production has halved in recent years, with the distillery focussing on their single malts. They recently won the Icons of Whisky award as the Brand Innovator of the year. The 14yo Portwood Finish has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels, and then finished in 50yo tawny port pipes for around one year.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Honeydew melon, red berries, baked apples. Rich toffee, butterscotch. Sweet honey and bitter dark chocolate.
Palate: Fruit and nut. Peaches, apricots, mango and plum. Mixed Walnut and Pecan.
