Luna Park Sydney, the iconic amusement park is undertaking an ambitious transformation, starting with the $15m reimagining of Sydney’s Big Top.
Luna Park’s Dream Circus will launch under Sydney’s Immersive Big Top on 22nd December 2023. The grand multi-generational spectacle is expected to mesmerise over 50,000 people this summer.
Created in Sydney, Luna Park’s Dream Circus is a world-first immersive attraction which will leave guests awestruck by a narrative journey, captivated by lovable characters, and mesmerised by a one-of-a-kind sensory spectacle.
The unique experience has been cultivated by Sydney-based specialist creatives and technicians including Artists in Motion, TDC and Auditoria who have worked across some of the most complex creative projects in the world.
Sydney’s Immersive Big Top is a 3,000sqm multi-purpose entertainment venue comprised of state-of-the-art Barco projection technology, a spatially mapped audio system, hologram technology, motion-activated LED screens and the latest in lighting technology. The resulting effect will be 360-degree visual and audio immersion with an activated surface area of more than 3,500sqm.
Future technologists in Sydney will also have a state-of-the-art new training facility with the advanced environment of Luna Park’s Immersive Big Top, enabling a unique skill development opportunity for a vocational pathway into the growing immersive experience industry.
“We are proud to build for Sydney, one of the most technically advanced environments in the country. The result will be a venue without equal – capable of featuring the best immersive experiences, never-before-seen immersive live music and special events” says John Hughes, CEO, Luna Park Sydney.
The new attraction will see Luna Park expand its offering, adds Mr Hughes: “As a world-class amusement park we need to be more than rides, and expanding our depth of offering through world-class immersive experiences will mean that Sydneysiders won’t have to travel the globe to experience these incredible environments. We want to be a reliable, magical, and affordable destination for all generations of Sydneysiders and visitors to our city”.
The transformation of Luna Park Sydney is responding to today’s audiences who demand engagement, personalisation and ‘immersive-ness’ in a highly social environment – a phenomenon which has seen the recent rise of the global immersive experience economy.
As one of the most intact art-deco amusement parks in the world, Luna Park Sydney’s transformation will find harmony between the best of the old and the best of the new, elevating the Sydney icon onto the world stage.
This ambitious next chapter will deliver a world-class, multi-layered, and technology-driven experience destination aligned with Luna Park’s 1935 ethos of wonder, escapism and joy. This will ensure Sydney’s cultural icon remains vibrant, viable and relevant for current and future generations.
Luna Park Sydney’s CEO John Hughes commented: “For over 88 years, Luna Park Sydney has played an important role in the social and cultural fabric of the city. This year, we will reinforce our position as a leader in the visitor and night-time economy by unlocking the immense creative capability in this city”.
Tickets for the Dream Circus experience are priced at $35 for children and $45 for adults and can be purchased on the website or at the ticket box office at Sydney’s Immersive Big Top from 22nd December 2023.
