From a few mates fermenting molasses, to a lightning strike and the birth of the famous Bundy Bear… Bundaberg Rum has a rich history and plenty of fair dinkum Aussie stories. This year Bundy Rum celebrates 135 years of being an Australian icon.

Since 1888, the team at Bundy have been perfecting the famous Bundaberg UP while creating some ultimate, limited-edition releases along the way…

To celebrate 135 years, let’s take a trip down MemRUMry Lane…

●       1888: In a stroke of genius, seven local mates from Bundaberg, start fermenting some molasses in response to the booming sugarcane industry. After a few trials Bundy was born.

●       1907: After raging success from Queensland to Western Australia, a fire breaks out at the distillery catching and burning quickly, it’s no surprise considering rum is a fuel to fire! But not to worry, because the distillery rebuilds and is later named “Distillery of the Year” in 1931!

●       1936: Strike 2! Lightning strikes the rebuilt distillery, setting it on fire once more, sending litres of molasses flowing into a nearby river, and quite possibly giving the fish of the Bundy region a taste of the golden liquid.

●       1961: The iconic Bundy Polar Bear is born, symbolising the rum’s cool and smooth character. Fun Fact: it was Prime Minister Billy McMahon’s brother, a gifted marketer, who invented the Bundy Polar Bear.

●       2004: Bundy fans fall in love with the first ever release of Bundaberg Rum Distillers No. 3, they’ve been asking for more ever since…

●       2013: No 3. is finally back to celebrate 125 years of Bundaberg Rum! Fans fly in from around the world and line up for days to get their hands on it!
